Why Do We Have An Exploding Industry Of Medical Tourism Where Americans Go Overseas For Medical Procedures?

Medical Tourism Review   Aug 05,2009 3:26   Comment»

Because insurance companies have priced medicine out of everybody’s reach. Hell! We can’t even afford the insurance anymore – so if we get sick we just die in a ditch – that’s the republican plan.

Quite simply, health care in the US can be up to 15 times more expensive than other countries. In the year-old article below, it says that most medical tourists go to other countries for selective surgery. However, with American hospitals now forming partnerships with overseas hospitals, it’s clear this is changing. I recently read an article that said some health insurance companies are offering overseas surgery as an option to patients when it would save money for both company and patient. One of the downsides, of course, is that overseas medical tourism means a loss of $billions to the US economy.

Hmmm ya think lower cost and better outcomes may have something to do with this? Considering that many of these ‘tourist’ trips are part of corporate health care plans, it makes ya wonder. Like why is the Health insurance industry spending so much to fight health care reform.
These guys have a gross profit margin of 40 percent. These companies process medicare claims on a contract basis for the government. they process claims and make a profit on less that 5 percent of the medicare premium dollar.
Based on the posts I see here, their lobby and ‘education’ money is well spent.

    1. Because it’s cheap, even though there are risks but this far outweighs the cost in some opinion
    2. Because North American society is getting increasingly more focused on appearance, etc and drills it into the head of everyone.
    3. It’s becoming more accepted to alter your appearance etc. Possibly due to the fact that religion and community values are changing/diminishing.
    4. Because ppls self esteem is so low that the quest for looking young/fitting into this ‘ideal’ mold is worth it.
    5. Globalization.
Of course, I’m assuming you are talking about appearance wise.

I live near Houston that has some of the finest Hospitals in the world. People come from across the world for the treatment they can get here.
Cheap plastic surgery can be had in foreign countries and I hear Thailand is your best bet for a cheap sex change.

Money and skill of the cutter.

  9. Anonymous

the insane price could be the reason that it costs here?

Ask which medical procedures they actually leave HERE for–most of them are plastic surgery to save a buck. The rest actually come here for real medical treatment. Can you explain how total control over your life will improve your health? Other than to make you poor, subservient and enslaved?

That’s a complete lie. On the contrary, people are coming here. God bless.
